Welcome to the Languedoc

In Deep Schiste is a collation, concoction, perhaps even a curated collection of news, opinion, observations and anecdotes from a (relatively) recent migrant to the Languedoc region of southern France.

As well as recording and covering local events and happenings, In Deep Schiste will provide a perspective on the world from a settlement with a population of about 1,500 about 730 kilometres and a seven-hour drive from the Elysée Palace in Paris as well as useful hints and tips for others moving (from the UK) to France – from dealing with bureaucracy, estate agents, healthcare, to the minutiae of everyday life.

This an area of rocky terroir – schiste – and a huge variety of great wine and produce … with dozens of vignerons close by.
